You are not failing
Pumping shouldn't feel
this overwhelming.
Nobody hands you a manual when they send you home with a breast pump. You sit down, figure out the parts, try to remember what someone told you at the hospital, and then wonder why it hurts or why so little is coming out.
Pumping can feel exhausting, isolating, and discouraging — especially when you are already running on no sleep and pure love for this tiny human. The truth is, most parents are never properly taught how to use their pump. The settings, the fit, the schedule, the output expectations — all of it is left to figure out alone.
Pain while pumping is not normal. Low output does not always mean low supply. A few small adjustments — the right flange size, the right settings, the right schedule — can completely change your experience.
You are not failing. You just need the right support.
"A few small adjustments can completely transform your pumping experience."

Signs you may need pumping support
If any of these feel familiar, you are in the right place. Most of these challenges are very fixable with the right guidance.
Pumping is painfulDiscomfort, pinching, or pain during pumping is almost always a flange sizing or settings issue — not something to push through.
Low milk outputIf you feel like you are not pumping enough, there may be easy adjustments that significantly change what you see in that bottle.
Nipples hurt after pumpingSoreness, bruising, or blanching after a session points to a fit issue — not a problem with your body.
Unsure what settings to useMost pumps have more features than the instructions explain. We will walk you through everything so you actually know what you are doing.
Feeling chained to your pumpIf pumping is taking over your life, we can help you build a schedule that fits around you — not the other way around.
Returning to work soonGoing back to work without a pumping plan is one of the most common reasons moms stop breastfeeding earlier than they wanted to.
Exclusively pumpingEP is a full commitment and it deserves full support. We specialize in helping exclusive pumpers build sustainable, long-term routines.
Simply overwhelmedIf pumping just feels like too much right now, that is a completely valid reason to ask for help. That is what we are here for.
"You do not have to figure this out alone."

Your coverage
Pumping support is covered
by most insurance plans
Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans are required to cover lactation counseling — including pumping consultations — as a preventive benefit. That means no out-of-pocket cost for most families.
We work with a wide range of insurance plans serving Riverside County and Southern California, and we assist with insurance verification before your first appointment so there are no surprises on your end.
Access to proper pumping support should not be a financial decision. We help you use the coverage you already have to get the expert guidance you deserve.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
How often should I pump?
It depends on your goals, your baby's age, and whether you are also nursing. In the early weeks, most parents pump 8 to 12 times per 24 hours to establish supply. As your baby grows and supply stabilizes, many moms can reduce sessions. We will build a schedule specifically tailored to your situation during your consultation.
How do I increase my milk supply?
Supply is driven by demand — the more milk is removed, the more your body makes. But there are many factors at play: flange fit, pump settings, pumping frequency, hydration, stress, and hormones. Power pumping, skin-to-skin, hands-on pumping, and schedule adjustments can all help. A consultation helps us identify what is actually limiting your output and build a targeted plan.
What size flange do I need?
Flange size is based on your nipple diameter — not breast size. Most pumps come with one or two sizes that do not fit most people well. The correct size allows your nipple to move freely without the areola being pulled in, and without the nipple rubbing against the tunnel walls. We measure and fit flanges during our in-office consultations and can guide you through self-measurement virtually.
Is pumping supposed to hurt?
No. Pumping should not be painful. If you experience pinching, compression, soreness, or nipple blanching during or after a session, that is almost always a sign of incorrect flange sizing or pump settings — both of which are very fixable. Do not accept pain as a normal part of pumping. Book a consultation and we will find the issue.
Can I exclusively pump instead of breastfeeding?
Absolutely. Exclusive pumping is a completely valid feeding choice and we fully support it. It does require a bit more planning to maintain supply long-term, which is exactly where we can help — with sustainable schedules, output strategies, and guidance for every stage of the EP journey.
Do you help with wearable pumps like the Willow or Elvie?
Yes. We support Willow, Elvie, Momcozy, and other hands-free wearable pumps — including help with fit, settings, output troubleshooting, and whether a particular pump is the right choice for your needs and your supply goals.
Is pumping support covered by insurance?
Yes — for most families. Pumping consultations are covered under the lactation support benefit required by the Affordable Care Act. We accept IEHP, Kaiser, Medi-Cal, UnitedHealthcare, Health Net, Blue Shield Promise, Community Health Group, Cigna, and most PPO and HMO plans. Verify your benefits here to confirm your coverage before booking.
