Feeding your baby shouldn't feel
like constant pressure.

Somewhere along the way, feeding a baby became a performance — something to get right, to prove, to justify to everyone around you. And if your feeding journey does not look like the one described in a book or a parenting group, it can feel like you are failing before you have even started.

The reality is that most families end up using some combination of breastfeeding, pumping, formula, and bottles — and that is not a plan B. That is just what real feeding looks like for real families.

You deserve support that meets you exactly where you are. Not support that silently judges your choices or pushes an agenda. A space where every feeding decision you make is respected, and every question you bring is answered without a side of guilt.

Fed is best.

There is no wrong way to feed your baby. There is only the way that works for your family — and we are here to help you find it.

Common reasons families seek
combination feeding support

If you have thought any of these, you are in exactly the right place.

"My baby refuses bottles."

Bottle refusal before returning to work or leaving your baby with a caregiver is one of the most stressful feeding situations — and one of the most fixable with the right approach.

"I need help balancing breastfeeding and pumping."

Finding a rhythm between nursing and pumping takes planning. We help you build a schedule that supports your supply and fits your actual life.

"I need to supplement but don't know where to start."

Introducing formula or supplementing with pumped milk does not have to feel complicated. We walk you through exactly how to do it in a way that supports your goals.

"I want flexibility with feeding."

Wanting to share feeding responsibilities, travel, or simply not be the only one who can feed your baby is a valid and completely reasonable goal.

"I feel overwhelmed trying to feed my baby."

Feeding a newborn is harder than anyone tells you. If it feels like too much right now, that is not a character flaw — it is a sign you need support.

"I'm worried my baby isn't getting enough."

Concerns about feeding adequacy are among the most common reasons parents seek lactation support — and they are almost always something we can help you assess and address.

"There is no one-size-fits-all feeding journey. There is only yours — and we are here to support it."

Why families choose
combination feeding

There are as many reasons to combination feed as there are families doing it. Every single one of them is valid.

Flexibility for Working Parents

Returning to work while maintaining a feeding relationship often requires a combination of nursing, pumping, and bottles. We help you find a rhythm that works for all three.

Shared Feeding Responsibilities

Partners, grandparents, and caregivers being able to feed your baby is a beautiful thing — not a compromise. We help you build a feeding plan that includes your whole support system.

NICU or Medical Feeding Needs

Families navigating NICU stays, premature birth, or medical feeding challenges often rely on combination feeding from the start. We provide specialized, compassionate support for these journeys.

Milk Supply Challenges

Not every parent can produce a full milk supply — and that is not a failure. Supplementing with formula while continuing to breastfeed or pump is a valid, loving feeding choice.

Mental Health & Wellbeing

A parent's mental health matters. If exclusive breastfeeding is taking a serious toll on your wellbeing, choosing to combination feed is not giving up — it is taking care of yourself.

Family-Centered Feeding Goals

Sometimes combination feeding is simply what works best for your family's lifestyle, values, and circumstances. That is a complete and sufficient reason — no further justification required.

Whatever your reason — it is enough. You do not owe anyone an explanation for how you feed your baby.

Most feeding support visits are covered
by insurance

Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans are required to cover lactation counseling as a preventive benefit — including support for combination feeding, bottle feeding, and pumping. Many families pay nothing out of pocket.

We work with a wide range of insurance plans across Riverside County and Southern California, and we assist with benefits verification before your appointment so there are never any surprises.

Access to feeding support should not be limited by cost. We help every family use the insurance coverage they already have.

Frequently asked questions

What is combination feeding?

Combination feeding means feeding your baby using more than one method — breastfeeding some feeds and bottle feeding others, using both pumped breast milk and formula, or nursing at home while bottles are given at daycare. There is no single definition because every combination feeding journey looks different.

Can I breastfeed and bottle feed at the same time?

Yes — many families do this successfully. The key is introducing bottles at the right time, using paced bottle feeding to prevent flow preference, and having a plan to maintain your milk supply if you want to continue breastfeeding alongside bottle feeding.

When should I introduce a bottle?

If you plan to combination feed, most lactation professionals recommend waiting until breastfeeding is well established — typically around 3 to 6 weeks — before introducing a bottle. However this varies depending on your situation. If you need to introduce a bottle earlier, we can help you do so in a way that minimizes disruption.

What is paced bottle feeding?

Paced bottle feeding is a technique that slows the rate at which a baby takes a bottle — mimicking the pace of breastfeeding, helping prevent overfeeding and flow preference. It involves holding the bottle horizontally and allowing baby to control the pace with natural pauses. We demonstrate this technique during consultations and can walk caregivers through it as well.

Do you support families who use formula?

Yes — absolutely and without reservation. Formula feeding is a valid, loving, and sometimes necessary choice. Families who use formula deserve access to the same quality feeding support and guidance as anyone else. We support formula feeding, combination feeding, and all transitions between methods with the same expertise and complete absence of judgment.

Is feeding support covered by insurance?

Yes — for most families. Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans must cover lactation counseling as a preventive benefit. This includes support for combination feeding, bottle feeding transitions, and pumping. Verify your benefits here before booking.
